Midlevel electronic engineering with Kicad (French teacher) - usb traces - power planes

Post by sporniket »

This is in French, but I found it quite instructive. The speaker is a teacher at a French University.

This lesson deals with
  • how to setup differential traces with appropriate impedance, applied to routing from a USB connector to the target micro-controller. In passing, the minimal requirement of having a 4 layer pcb to be able to support the full speed of USB is explained a little bit.
  • how to use power planes (abstract : organize the different areas powered with different voltage levels, use several vias to limit the impedance)
  • how to route the oscillation circuit of a microcontroller to minimize electronic noise. (abstract : a dedicated ground plane area, enclosed with vias)
