I noted drives before 2002 have a Sony chip which do not work on the Atari.. I found this out many many years ago...The drives with the BH chip all work which are dated after 2002 and never had any problems with those drives.
However today I found a 2001 drive with the Sony chip, I changed the drive select ID as normal.. Now when the ST accesses the drive, it spins up but that is all it does.. Desktop just reports things like "drive a is not responding". It could be possible the drive is faulty, but as I have had this problem before and going to assume this drive does actually work.
This was the problem I had years ago with the SONY chip drives.. If anyone has any input on this then let me know if there is anything else to try.. But I do not know what.. There must be some reason for these drives refusing to work but I've never found any information as to why..
SONY MPF920 "BAD DRIVES" PRE-2002.

I believe I have Sony drives from 1998, 1999 etc working. I'll post this as a reminder to myself to verify and get back to the topic.

There are other models earlier like the 420 (IIRC) which work good also. This is just the MPF920 drives with a sony chip. Its one of those mysteries which I haven't yet been able to figure out :(troed wrote: 14 Dec 2017 18:41 I believe I have Sony drives from 1998, 1999 etc working.
