I replaced the oscillator and get the same thing. Will try reflashing the CPLD.

Didn't change anything. Would be odd if it did.

Tried a 33 MHz (fake) CPU and get the same result.

It really doesn't. Sysinfo is utter garbage. Try AIBB and you'll get way more accurate results.

AIBB 6.5 says CPU Clock is 40 MHz.

I will take another look under the microscope. I know for sure there are no shorts but maybe a pin is lifted.

This is not possible. Like i couldnt make the board do that if i tried. Either there is an 80 mhz crystal on there, there is some tragic soldering between the CPLD and the CPU or the software is wrong.

The CPLD solderings are good. I tugged every one of them. I probably received the wrong oscillators. They don't have frequency scribed on them.

I don't think my solderings are bad. Every single leg has been pushed to check looseness.
I will order new ocsillators and replace them. I'm glad it still works with the lower frequency.

Yes, it could be an 80 mhz crystal then, but the 536 will generally boot at that frequency only on a specific A500 revision (I think rev5 but not sure anymore), not on the other revs.

Will let you know how it does with the new parts when I get them. Might as well just leave it at 40 MHz since it works and put it in the A2000. It lets me use the cheap fake 030's. Will runu a raytrace to see if it's stable.
I'm loving the buffered IDE. I have a CF card thatdidn't work properly in my TF534's with a short IDE cable but works great here even with a long cable.
