A570 Question

Post by hiddenevil »

Hi everyone

I was recently gifted an A570. I upgraded my Amiga from a TK '020 card to the blisteringly nippy TF536. However, unlike the TK card, I've read the TF card might not support the A570. Before I go hooking it up, I thought I'd come on here and double check. I have an awful lot of CD's and would really love to go through them on my A500+.

DMA to fastram will not work. MemBufType for your CD drive needs to be set to 24bit dma ram.

For interest, the values possible for mem type are:

0: Any memory
1: Public, any memory, marked as public
2: Chip RAM
4: Fast RAM
256: Local, memory that is persistent
512: 24-bit DMA capable memory

Hi TF

I'd read it was a DMA issue, however with my limited understanding. I wasn't sure if this was "no it won't work period" situation or more of a "if you tweak, disable, throw salt over left shoulder" It will eventually.

Its a software issue in the sense that the software should be smart enough not to use that RAM. I have had it working on the CDTV by forcing software not to use the Ziii fastram. but that was quite painful to do .

P.s I have a vague memory of Viktor telling me that to get the A570 working with his TK '020 card. I had to first remove the A570's internal ram. As it would conflict, so i had to either disable the ram on the TK card or the A570, the latter being the better option as the Zorro II would be much slower.

Thats pretty much the extent of my A570 + accelerator card knowledge and it's EVEN less when it comes to A570 + TF536 lol

So the long and short answer is right now, it won’t work if I hook it up?

Probably not but try and see. If you leave the Z2 ram inside the A570 you may get better results.
