Atari Falcon, what is this mod?!

Post by geogeo_28 »

I recently bought an Atari Falcon with the following hardware mod:

Do you have an idea of what is the purpose of this mod? Looks like a keyboard extension?

Allows an external keyboard. Like the mega or TT keyboards. Interesting how the internal keyboard is just wired with two cables but the external gets all. I have something similar but I wired it differently. He didn't do a good job on the case, that wants cleaning up :)

Looks like you can just unplug that RJ connector and plug the internal keyboard back in easily. For the hole at least tidy it so it's not all jagged lol. You could then cut out a little square of similarly coloured plastic and place it in the spot with a dab of hot glue.

Only 5V and FDD LED are wired on the internal keyboard... but ground is missing, so only FDD LED will work, but not a power LED.
