A side by side with a replica:

There are more subtle differences:

And the inclusion of Atari logo:

And the not so subtle noise difference which I felt and is now confirmed:

I will also now be able to play Crystal Castles properly, as the diagonal direction needs the real McCoy.

I studied the ebay pictures very closely and am happy to say it has even surpassed what I expected!

Cool! Is that the higher durability modified BEST one?

As for Crystal Castles...It was a LOOONG time ago, but I vaguely remember (I may be wrong) the arcade version may have used a trackball.

Do any of the home ones make use of a trackball? (or am I going crazy with this wrong memory?)

I don't honestly know.

I'm referring to the ST version, though I did play the 2600 version as a kid. I may at some point get a 2600. I used to love playing Q-Bert, Pheonix and Vanguard. Played Pac Man upside down once until the score reset to zero.

I think some use a trackball. I've always been a fan of the CX-40. I feel bad for throwing them on the floor in frustration as a kid.

Thanks for that! I'm gonna try it tomorrow, so if it doesn't work there'll be pictures.

Too tired just now after a 25 mile bike ride with lots of steep climbs.

I got through a stack of those back in the day. If I recall, Atari even sold repair kits.

Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

Gonna get the replacement circuit board too.

I also have a replacement central column in my replica one.

That's the one. I can remember going to places that sold Atari and seeing the stick kit and the PCB kit in blister packs.

I don't have any these days, but I do have one of the Pro sticks (They are awful BTW) and a couple of the joypads that came with the 7800, which I quite like. Main stick is a Competition Pro.

What's a pro stick?

I like the CX-40 with the grey body. They seem pretty damn rare!

It's officially called the Pro Line:

It's a good looker, but the stick is mushy, and the shape means your thumbs go numb quite quickly when pressing the fire buttons.
