CT60 (install disk)

Post by GadgetUK164 »

I have a CT60e here that starts to boot as normal, showing 256MB of SDRAM, memory tests all OK (14MB ST-RAM, 256MB TT-RAM), gives an option of TOS, MagiC, or Linux. Then processes AUTO folder and always comes up with an invalid instruction exception.

The CF card seems to be setup for the standard Falcon 030, I suspect I might be missing something - a driver or something that perhaps needs to go into the AUTO folder? Any ideas?

I cannot find any downloads related to the CT60 except for the firmware updates.

EDIT: I tried renaming the AUTO folder to something else in case it was something in there causing that exception, but just the same. Is there supposed to be something that is needed in AUTO related to the 060?

No it should just go straight to desktop without issue. Usually that is caused by something conflicting in the NVRAM. Are you using the ct60e bypass NVRAM setting or the Falcons NVRAM?

Either way, sometimes pressing reset a few times will get it to boot. Then run an NVRAM clearing program. That one by the bloke at HD DRIVER is good. Set the default boot OS to TOS as well. When that isn't set it can cause issues.

I removed some .acc files from the root and that got it booting! =D Thanks for the suggestions there!

The other thing I am not sure about - I have Quake on there, but it runs at less than 1 FPS. And Doom is on the CF card, but a .exe (which I cannot run from Gem). I read something about having to associate extensions or something depending on whether its running in 060 mode or 030 mode? It's all new to me this lol.

But running Gem Bench shows its working I think:-

I am wondering if I need to use SETFLAGS or something similar to tell Quake to run from ALT-RAM?

I think Quake needs to run from inside Mint? I might be wrong. It should automatically use TT RAM as the Falcon doesn't have enough ST RAM for it.
Also what CPU do you have? If it is the 060 without an FPU that would explain your speed.

It's a full 060 with FPU and MMU. Confused, because it does launch!?!?

Thanks, yeah - cannot seem to find those anywhere on the net! Seems like a lot of this stuff is not very well documented.
