Been testing my fixed up STFM...
Been starting it up for 2 days now and thus far the horizontal position has stayed put. This means I can keep the monitor settings, and it's always the best it can be. Very happy with this!
All that's left is to maybe get some sort of scan doubler to fix the lines that are obvious in low resolution mode:
I was having an issue with Notator yesterday where I thought it wasn't copying to the correct bar location and it turned out I hadn't taken into account the rest before the notes.
During this though, I tested loading Notator from the original floppy disk and then the song file which I'd saved to floppy disk. Same result (which proved the fault wasn't EmuTos, hooray!) Upon realising I now had the latest version of the song saved on floppy disk when I'd fired up the Ultrasatan, I loaded it from the floppy disk. In the past this would just corrupt the data, so I couldn't mix the two formats. That's hopefully the end of that issue. 8-)
Notator did do the thing where the bleep just goes continuous for no reason, but because I haven't previously used the Atari sound with Notator it might be a bug. There are a few, like you'll load Notator and the track naming box will open by itself and you have to click ok. Had this the whole time I used it on a different Atari.
It doesn't seem to affect operation. I always save my work and reboot though to be safe.
Other than that everything seems 100% (I say seems 'cause I don't want to count my chickens.)
I keep expecting the text to be bumped off the screen at startup.
A big thank you to everyone that contributes to Atari! :thanksblue:
Bye bye old bits!

Thanks Steve. It's weird without the psu heat lol
I'm currently putting an sd card together with all the games demos etc to mess about.

Also used to get some heat around the drive area which seems to have stopped.
It's weird having a cold PSU @exxos  It's obvious now that my original PSU was cooking my RAM as it now lives next door.

Re: Been testing my fixed up STFM...
I got my last one, a Mega STE in May. Thankfully in great condition and runs lovely. I have about 11 or 12 in total, mostly STFMs, one ST, two Megas and the MSTE. Plus I have an H4 board and another to build.
To get it to Steve and back is not bad given lockdown :)

Re: Been testing my fixed up STFM...
My STFM was in mint condition but oddly had a damaged floppy connector. I had to buy a new IDE (or IDC can't remember) connector and crimping tool to fix it. The back was missing! Then the dreaded TOS 1.00 which wouldn't even let me copy a floppy disk. Then not enough memory to run Notator. Bad PSU caps. Then data corruption. :lol:rubber_jonnie wrote: 26 Aug 2020 13:07I got my last one, a Mega STE in May. Thankfully in great condition and runs lovely. I'm currently looking at OSSC. My MultiSync monitor has a DVI connection, so looking into it now. No one is actually showing these devices actually being connected!
I want to use my ST2VGA to OSSC and then out to my monitor. At this stage I don't even know what the OSSC end of my DVI is.
Been sorting out an SD card with games and demos. Putting everything in one place with alphabetical folders so I can easily find games. Nearly finished.

It's easy to forget how old these machines are until you uncover all their problems, but at least there is a thriving community to help. You may want to look at Retrotink too for connecting up they seem to be well liked.Cosmic Puppet wrote: 26 Aug 2020 13:22

Personally I have an NEC 1970NX and it does all resolutions lovely for my MSTE which is permanently set up.
I have a CosmosEx permanently hooked up to my MSTE too, so I can drop games onto a shared drive and access them on direct via a networked drive. Works a treat.

Just watching this so it has DVI out and D-Sub in.
This would have not have been possible without this community.
Was just looking at Retrotink. I'll make a video of how I set this up when I do.
The journey by train was grueling but didn't want to give anyone else the task of transporting my Atari. I was lucky that I got a lift off a friend to go pick it up. That had it's own challenges seeing that he is a young driver.
