NEC MultiSync EA190M

Post by exxos »

Bought myself one of these cheap second-hand as I needed a high-res monitor...

Out of the box, the default settings are pretty awful. You can see clearly there is scaling issues...
IMG_1928.jpg

The only way to fix this is to manually alter the horizontal width..

IMG_1934.jpg
You can see the banding in the background image, the banding sizing gaps get larger and larger and fainter and fainter as the horizontal is increased until ultimately they disappear...

Because I took a picture of this with my digital camera, and then had to resize images, and compress them a little the image quality looks a little worse than it actually is on screen..

LOW RESOLUTION.

MEDIUM RESOLUTION

HIGH RESOLUTION

Overall the monitor seems to works fine in all three resolutions. There does not seem to be anything nasty in the image overall. I think it looks pretty decent really.

The only downside I see is that the image is a little bit out of focus, it would have been nice if the monitor had some sort of sharpness setting, but I cannot find one.

Are these pictures taken whilst the monitor is connected to an Atari ST? If so, what connection did you use?
TT030 with Storm with 256 Mb Ram, Thunder with a CF drive and Lightning, HxC floppy emulator and one of Codekiller's magical Mono/Colour switchers, also 3 STS one has TOS1.0 AND 2.06 switchable with an HD drive, the other two are untested as yet, just bought for spares!!

So the Low Res was at 15 khz even though the manual says 31 khz is lowest?
and you say it was from an Atari - but was it an ST or TT or Falcon?

That doesn't make sense, its a Multisync monitor.. so it has to support 15Khz else it wouldn't be multisync..

31.5 kHz to 81.1 kHz (Digital) Automatically
Vertical: 56.0 Hz to 75.0 Hz Automatically
from P13

Don't know then, the manual must be wrong as it clearly works in low res.

I use the same monitor connected with the Best Electronics multisync video cable. All three resolutions work as Exxos states so it does support 15Khz no matter what the manual says.

I like the monitor because it also has speakers built-in even though they are not the greatest.

Is there any way you can get the monitor to show current refresh rate?
