How to Softkick with TF536 ?

Post by manmax »

Hello everybody and first thanks to Steve for his wonderfull work !!
I have just purchased a tf536 and it's just perfect but unfortunatly mu a500+ have a problem with eprom, impssible to have a ks3.1, i tried with different speed eprom and always black screen.
So i decided to try skick, but if i run it from startup-sequence 1st line, ipossible to find a memory space for relocating kickstart. i tried fastram, ext ram with no results. With chip ram, skick runs ok but amiga won't boot.

If i run os3.1 on ks 37.300, then launch skick GUI, and choose ext ram or 32bit ram, skick is working 100% after reboot.
So i think that on cold boot and with skick command in startup-sequence, memory is not available.
Skick have an addmem switch, but i dont' understand how to use it.....

Du you know what i could do for that ? or another soft to use ?

I think you have another issue. Probably bad ram. Kick 3.1 works perfectly on all the machines i've used. A500/A500+/A2000 and A1000.

Be careful that you are plugging the EPROM correctly. You need 27C400-120 eproms and on the A500+ you should leave the topmost row of pins empty, since the socket is longer than the chip. If you mistakenly plug the eprom starting from the top of the socket you'll burn out the EPROM.

I haven't personally tried SKick because I always used a physical rom, so I can't help you with that one.

EDIT: the RAM is added at boot, not later, so it seems to me SKick has a few bugs, or maybe you're not invoking the correct command line.

Another vote for no problems using an EPROM on the A500+.

How are you burning the image into the EPROM? Has it been byteswapped? The images from Amiga Forever, for example, need to be byteswapped before burning. See here:- https://github.com/keirf/PCB-Projects/w ... -the-eprom

If it is a ROM from Amiga Forever, some earlier versions had the ROMs encrypted so they cannot be used on real hardware. Newer versions are not encrypted, and there are decryption apps available.

I had already thought about all those issues. ...
A500 1mo chip ram is tested with amnesia soft....all is ok.

Chips are burned the right way, copyright message ok in buffer.
I tried a 150ns chip and a 100ns....both don't work but both work flawlessly with 2 A600.....

I will try to populate 68000 sil10 resistor packs, it helps Cosmos with a rev6 and same troubles.

Skicks is pretty tricky in command line because some arguments are not in the helpfile. Very strange it works from gui in Workbench....I will try again.

SKick will probably not work but you can try anyway. Kick 3.1 is 100% working wih TF536. Basically I dont test with anything else on Amiga.

Yes i know. Is seems some motherboards have issue with EPROM. Not only rev5,....some rev6 and according to an old German forum, rev8. Amiga 500rev8 schematics have the sil10 4.7k populated I will try soon.

Your card works perfectly with kick 3.1 when skicked from wb... 9.7mips and IDE is 4.6mo/s....better than my blizzard mkiv with 3/50 and 64mo on a1200 !!

Great news :P
Skick is working fine now.
Command is skick yourfile 32BIT, but this argument is not in the guide !! Only visible with skick ?

I will try to understand why eprom is not working with my main board.

Even after soft kick command CPU fastrom seems to improve IDE a little.

Rp106 and rp107 are soldered : amiga boot with ks3.1 erom bit not stable, sole glitches on screen.
Will try to populate rp108 ans rp110, as in Amiga rev6 schematics.

Return to “TF536”
