TOS/CPU/&MORE Upgrades for an STE

Post by Steve »

Hi guys,

I just finished an upgrade job for a client, it was a stock STE in very nice condition given the following upgrades:

Before any modifications:
beginning.jpg
Replace the SN74S257N with SN74F257N U405 (Required for 32Mhz booster)
removed u405.jpg
u405 socket.jpg
new u405.jpg
Reset circuit cap replacements
removed reset caps.jpg
new reset caps.jpg
UBE TOS Switcher with fast ROM
removed TOS roms.jpg
route line under yamaha.jpg
Ultrasatan Micro-USB cable connected to Floppy 5v
ultrasatan cable.jpg
Exxos 32Mhz STE booster upgrade & 8mhz/32Mhz switch.
remove CPU.jpg
booster 32mhz line.jpg
booster and switch.jpg
New Exxos 110v PSU
new psu.jpg

And the rest: New 4700uf cap, Video capacitor upgrade, Install new RAM.

Through every part of the incremental upgrades I informed the client with video demonstrations and photographs. The result is a very snazzy STE.

Wow that has been warmed and maybe the wrong solder to. Try cleaning with a q tip wet with baking soda then wash isp see what left for traces.

Congrats on the sale @Bikerbob , you half to admit the shown board resembles pictures Russ posted of his efforts, even the same area of the board and it was an STE if I recall. Maybe the perpitrator of this boards damage went to the same soldering school as Russ.

Well, Paul, Russ used a 1/2" soldering tip.. more like brazing iron, and I then think he fell asleep with it on the board.. LOL...

yeah.. always amazing how people are willing to butcher things when it is so obvious it is the wrong tool for the job.

Ya, I'm sure it was obvious when Russ started with the iron things weren't going well yet Russ forged on. I do miss Russ on the forum. You never know what he was going to do next. I think he hard a big heart, just poor execution on his efforts. He did want to be Exxos's advertsing department.
:sigh:
