I'm RemoteFlyer and I'm an Amiga Addict.
It all started in the late 80s when I was give a couple of jesus on e's, and went raving in a local club with some mates. (I think it was called The Bedroom.)
I managed to keep it steady for years, until a few months ago when I saw a 500 for sale with reports of a bad FDD. I've had an interest in electronics forever but my job in infrastructure doesn't lend itself to hardware repair anymore so I was looking for a gateway into doing something stronger. SMD etc.
I received the 500 and bought a gotek to get me started. There was nothing wrong with it. It worked perfectly. I didn't need to do anything, it didn't even need whitening. Boring. I needed something stronger.
I thought I'd try the 1200 so went to my local dealer and got one. The supplier said it was perfect, no chance of a bad trip.
I tried it... Everything went wrong. Everything went trippy, the colours were all wrong, everything was wavy.
Dac was short, and he had Lisa with him. But Dac had some bits shorter than others. Lisa got blown. I got replacements for them and everything looked good. 10 minutes passed and it all went black. It got a bit hot in there too. Alice had taken a bad trip and couldn't cope. I had to replace her too.
Luckily everything is stable now.
What a nightmare, but I'm addicted, and now I'm tempted to go try some accelerators. Maybe I'll even go full vampire!
I'm interested in Fpga implementations of Amiga cpus and have started designing a solution for the 1200 that's within my idea of a budget.
Has anyone else fixed a 1200 where every other Lisa colour output bit was dead across all 24 rgb outputs to the Dac? It just seems odd. (literally)
