Here's my sealed German 260ST with...1MB :o !
I don't know if Atari really did it or if it's an fake seal.
And i thought that the 260ST had a Tos only in floppy, so why do i have a 6 chip TOS 1.0 ROM in this one ?
What is the A870..DH number ?
What is this -38 shifter and what are de differences with the -38A ?
A lot of mystery

I have seen neat RAM jobs like that before in some machines, as to if Atari did that model or not, no idea.
Assuming it has been upgraded at some point, I would also assume the boot ROMs have been changed for proper OS ROMs.

Regarding the memory: I have a Mega 4 that has that kind of RAM upgrade in it. The motherboard only had two rows to be able to install memory. The other two rows are missing.
1. Could have been a user upgraded Mega 2 board inserted into a Mega 4 case.
2. Could have been done at the factory when they ran out of Mega 4 boards, then they used Mega 2s and upgraded them.
I do like the professional look of those upgrades though.

My (also German) 260ST has a very similar looking 1 MB upgrade in it...
However, it never got TOS ROMs, and still has the floppy boot ROMs. :geek:
Yes, I have cleaned it since these photos were taken. :)

Not uncommon, mine is documented here: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =53&t=1379
Mine had memory issues, and removing the piggyback RAM fixed it, until I then cleaned up the pins afterwards and it died. Works well with a Marpet style upgrade, and I'm sure one of exxos' MMU/SHIFTER style upgrades would give it a nice boost to 4MB.
Mine also has TOS in ROM.
I reckon as Frank says, that's just a dealer sticker.

This is a RAM upgrade that Atari has known to do themselves. Whether it's through a dealer, I don't know. All I know from various sources is that it was an upgrade sanctioned by Atari, and one that I've done myself several times.

Re: C070243 REV.C - Atari 260ST (1Mb) - Strange
Hello,
just registered in this forum.
The ATARI 260ST is currently my subject. Got it two weeks ago.
Thinking it was quite one of something ealier shipped, as it looks like "virgin". Only 512kB and TOS-RAM (needs systemdisk with TOS1.0)
It is also C070243 REV.C.
Currently investigating and searching for .... there I found this forum :-) .... instruction how to move from TOS-RAM to 6 TOS-ROM configuration.
I am not sure, if some soldering would be needed.
Maybe any hints around?
Best regards

Is this your only ST? I've got a 260ST with the floppy boot ROMs as well, and wouldn't dream of "upgrading" it to TOS ROMs. That machine stays original, and gets to boot in rainbow coloured glory. :D

yes - it is my only and actually first ATARI in my whole life.
I like it very much. However I do not want simply to look at it - I would like to do something on it.
And ... I would not go with an soldering iron on it ... :-)
