Floppy drive broken.

Post by Cosmic Puppet »

I think the head is out of alignment or something. I didn't notice Fast Copy was set to HD and now my drive can't see the floppy disks or format them. I got a message on fast copy that said something like "head at 0 Abort".

Do the easy bit first, carefully clean the floppy drive heads with IPA and make sure the drive eject mechanism is operating correctly and positioning the disk correctly every time
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Other disks are working. The configuration is all wrong in the fast copy pro. It now says "can't save FAT abort. I've basically not broken it but rendered two floppy disks useless unless I can set the correct disk configuration. How many sectors etc.

Can't you just click on the FAT DD button as shown https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... ?f=25&t=52

If I do that it sets the configuration at 11 sectors and 82 tracks. I've manually put it to 09 sectors and 79 tracks and then saved the configuration and now have a disk that the Atari can see again.

second disk just failed with "Cannot write the FATs!"

Got it. Just had to make sure get sectors used was switched on.

10 sectors 82 tracks is all some 720K drives can manage.

The Fat DD setting caused a horrid noise from my drive and I had to abort when it said something about the head. I thought Read Disk Config would take care of it. Mine only formatted at 09 sectors and 79 tracks.
