WANTED - Mega ST(E) or TT Keyboard.

Post by Encolpius »

Hello people,

I today came into possession of a Mega STE sans keyboard. Anyone got a Mega ST, Mega STE, or TT keyboard laying about that I could buy off them?

I live in East Anglia.

The TT/MSTE keyboards are extremely rare.

An Eiffel unit plus PS/2 keyboard may be easier to get hold of.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I have an Eiffel (it came in the bag of tricks with the wires and such) and my parts box has an older mechanical USB keyboard in it. However I don't have a PS/2 to USB adapter.

Does the Eiffel work with a USB keyboard that can also use a "block" type PS/2 adapter?

Yes the Eiffel does work with the PS/2 to usb adaptors. I did do a project a while back where I replaced the PS/2 sockets on the Effiel with USB ones

Okay, so I got everything set up, only the keyboard and mouse don't work with the Eiffel that came with. The Eiffel doesn't even light up; it just sits there like two penneth o' daft.

Am I being really stupid and forgetting that I need to plug it in with some sort of power cable or what?

If so, what cable do I need because I don't recognise it at all.

Okay, I've made it work with this Eiffel but it's the wire that's problematic. One of the connectors on it is badly corroded and sometimes it'll stop working and/or mess up the keyboard map and require me to jiggle it in the slot until it makes proper contact again.

You might be able to remove some of the corrosion with a bit of IPA, although not a long term solution obviously.
