Falcon030 Users Experiences

Post by oguzog »

hello Dear forumers,

Atari lovers,

I've FINALLY bought an ATARI Falcon030 (stock plain device)

It is not arrived yet. But it boots up just fine. (it is in england for a month before i receive it).

Now, I would like to use it as original as possible. so my questions are;

1-) Do i need 14MB ram option?
2-) do i need recapping or any electronical fixing?
3-) Do i need any rtc replacement?
4-) do i need 68882 ?
5-) do i need anything else :)

This depends on what you are going to be running.. Generally people move to the 14MB from 4MB in general.

TOS404 I strongly suggest and one from my store so you can use the above fast-rom.

PSU needs recapping.

Yes. The RTC will almost certainly be dead.

oguzog wrote: 26 Apr 2019 13:11 4-) do i need 68882 ?
Nope. People generally only fit it simply because there is a empty hole for it.

A deep wallet is always required in dealing with these machines, and patients.. ;)

I would suggest cleaning the floppy drive heads as a minimum as well.

Others may well suggest things I have forgotten about.

As a general thing, not just for Falcons, I'd suggest a complete strip down to get all the dust and other debris cleaned out.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...
