Volfied

Post by Icky »

This Christmas at work we had two days of retro gaming where the team took turns in playing games on Atari ST and this one became the one that everyone was trying to beat each others scores for the title of team retro gamer of 2018.

Very addictive game and I can not take credit for finding this one and for the sake of anonymity twowraps suggested we play Volfied from their childhood.

Volfied is a game of carving up sections of the playing space by moving your space craft around whilst not being hit by the aliens or what the boss alien fires out.

In addition there are blocks that if you enclose them they give you different bonuses ranging from time standing still, killing the small aliens, speed hike and others.

The aim is to close off the boss alien into a section of 80% or more. Whilst in the area away creating lines you are vulnerable and if your trail or you are hit they you will eventually die. In addition you have shields and once they are depleted any hit will make you lose a life.

Once you enclose the boss alien they are destroyed and you go to the next level collecting your bonus for the size of the area you enclose.

End of year retro games in the office are in full swing again in the Icky world and Volfied has come out on top again as the game most played to battle against each other in terms of scores.

This year however we have moved from running on a MiST to an H4 hidden in an STFM case :)

This has been putting the H4 under stress testing and so far so good, no crashes and its been on for the last 2 days for over 8 hours constantly.

The H4 has been solid as a rock and when scoping signals I find them extremely clean compared to an ST. Maybe we should just call it the Rock.

This was far and away the most played game on the ST in my household back in the day, even the old folks used to enjoy watching the youngsters play and shouting (bad) instructions and advice at the player.
