DO NOT USE DEVICES WHERE THE IP CHANGES CONSTANTLY!
At this time it is unfortunately not possible to white list users when your IP changes constantly.
You may inadvertently get banned because a previous attack may have used the IP you are now on.
So I suggest people only use fixed IP address devices until I can think of a solution for this problem!

Megafile 30 bites the bullet

Post by Icky »

So my Megafile 30 HDD made a grinding noise this morning and now stopped spinning

I know trying to replace a MFM / RLL drive is a non-starter so am looking to see what the best option is.

Just throwing out a few suggestions and am open to others.
  • Replace everything inside with something like a Gigafile or UltraSATAN but keeping the ACSI in and out ports
  • Replace with a ACSI to SCSI convertor and a SCSI HDD to provide the a similar disk like sound

I'm sorry to hear that your precious drive has died!

Perhaps you could go with the UltraSatan and keep the/a drive in there as well for the sounds. I would require some trickery, probably using an arduino or something to trigger the drive heads. Think of the famous disks drive music projects like:

I know, this wouldn't be a small project

I put a scsi2sd 5.1 board in my mega-set. It works reliably but its not as fast as the Ultra Satan. It tested out at 720 kb /sec while the Ultra Satan was running at 1000 kb/sec.

Thanks Paul - interesting to see Ultrasatan is faster. Might be swaying to that direction.

Well I have given up on the Megafile. I don't have the time to play around with it.

So if anyone wants it they can have it £0 - just need to pay the postage costs.

You can keep your extra glitter in it.
