Generic VME-to-ISA interface?

Post by stephen_usher »

Did anyone ever produce a generic TT/MSTE VME to ISA slot interface?

I know of the interface which allows the use of ISA graphics cards but what about other devices such as network interfaces?
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

There is a SMC_TT Project to use a SMC Ethernet ISA Card on the Atari VME Bus.

Ah. I see. I've found an old NE2000 card at my parent's house and wondered about the possibility of using it with the TT, given that there are drivers for the chipset already. Obviously it's non-trivial.

I just saw this, there does not appear to be much to it. I am not sure if you can use anything other than a graphics card, I cannot think why not!

It does not look hard to (reverse) engineer one.

There was back in these Days the PANHTER and PANTHER/2 Adapter for the 68000 CPU bus or with a PAK68/3.

-> http://www.wrsonline.de/panther2.html

The VME Bus to ISA Adapter is one thing but the other is the driver software for such an adapter ...

Just for fun I once ran a SoundBlaster ISA card in such a Nova VME adapter. (Obviously I had to write the software for that myself.)
