Do you mean the SD2IEC? I bought that variant from Ebay. Could probably dig up the listing again for any specifics if it helps?
rubber_jonnie wrote: 20 Aug 2025 11:46 Do you recall what those wires were? Was it attached to the DTV at that point?
Not really. They certainly were not anything to do with the SD2IEC though.

It appears so, doesnt it?

If you can that may help :)

I can't find any SD2IEC devices that look even remotely similar to yours, so I think that I will need your original listing if you can find it. It may have some sort of info about it.

I pulled the 5v line from it to see what it does when powered independently with the DTV off. The LEDs behave a little differently, as it at first appears to be doing 'something', but it ultimately settles with both LEDs on and that is wrong, you should see green/red together, then green and then they both go off.

I think it may be fundamentally broken somehow.

I'm going to try and hook mine up with flying leads and see if it works to verify.

It's verified, your SD2IEC has something wrong with it. I don't know what, but I hooked mine up in it's place and:

I can then load the file browser:

And I can load and run software:

Please ignore the weird banding on my display - it's the display, not the software.

Not great news I understand, SD2IEC's seem quite expensive right now.

Im not too worried about that as I have a couple of Pi1541s and a working real 1541, but thanks for the consideration.

As for the SD2IEC variant...that info has flown. :(

The most I could find on Ebay was a small clip of the original listing:

The seller was based in Hungary and looks like is not active any more.

So, please dont spend too much time on that device Jon. Its fine if I just use another device.

I really appreciate that you were trying to save it though. :)

No problem, I will have a tinker with it, but based on my digging it seems that it's detecting a firmware file, trying to update and failing. What that means as far as I can tell is that the bootloader needs updating and that requires an ISP tool, which I may or may not have so could try if I do.

I did find a couple of iffy looking solder joints and reflowed them, but it made no difference.

Once the sockets come I'll fit one to the DTV and test with my SD2IEC and as long as that works we'll at least know you should be able to plug in other stuff. That'll likely be post holiday now.

On the other hand it has at least verified that the IEC connections are good and the DTV works as expected. I can also verify that the joystick ports seem to be fine too. Unfortunately I can't easily test the SVideo as no real way to hook it up.

Basically it works just fine.

One item of note is that it does seem to be the case that the keyboard seems to be dodgy from a straight in power up, as in keys are not quite right or it doesn't work, but that is as you suggested and a simple reset with CTRL depressed makes it work right away so it does seem that the keyboard power up needs to be prior to the DTV booting.

There is no cassette port, it's a C64DTV. There are variations that will work fine with it, but it's not my call to buy a replacement.

It’s only using the cassette port to pick up +5V to power the board.

Thanks for the link @stephen_usher

However, I have 2 Pi1541s here and I believe they are meant to be more compatible than the SD2IEC units.

If thats not the case (and the Pi1541 is for some reason unsuitable for both DTV and the C64s) I will look at grabbing these. :)
