Re: STE mods

I have just reverted to my original configuration and everything works again... :D

So the memory is not the culprit and works just fine without parity chips.

I am pretty sure the booster would work with the bent pins method IngoQ did, but I think there is something wrong with the alternative method (cut trace and 2 solder spots) IngoQ further discovered.

If one of you guys have some clues or ideas, please share.

But meanwhile, let's wait for Exxos new plug-in booster ;)

Cheers.

Some feedback here on my last attempts to make the booster work (before testing Exxos' new beta booster).

After checking connections, I noticed a wire was de-soldered. My previous issues were surely related to this, as once the wire securely soldered again, my STE starts with no problems.

But:

- my Ultrasatan powers-on without booting from SD card (even in 8 Mhz mode)
- the FDD does not work with booster at 32Mhz (=Your Output Device is not receiving Data)
- the FDD works flawlessly with booster switched back to 8 Mhz

Could these problems be related to the resistor on the booster ? I swapped the original one for a 68R as suggested by Exxos.

Any comments are welcome.

Cheers.

Soldered back the original resistor (470R) on the booster but my STE does not boot...

Also what resistor are you referring to ?

Do you man these mods ? https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =20#p41514

Also note the capacitor ...

Ok, all the wires connecting to the booster are completely removed.

The cut trace is now functional again and everything is (almost) ready to test the new beta plug-in booster.

I guess the value of the resistor is somehow related to the FDD and Ultrasatan issues.

IngoQ seems to have the same mainboard revision as mine and he did not experienced any problems...

I think previous booster batches had a different resistor than 470R.

No, I have the Lotharek version:

Yes, I meant that mods.

The capacitor was also removed when I swapped the resistor.

Have you tried with no resistor or capacitor ?

No, I did not.

Too late now as everything went back to its quite original state...

But anyway I am happy the booster worked somehow.

And it would surely have worked without any glitch if I could spend more time on it, but I prefer concentrate on your beta version which is more aesthetical...
