Maybe it would just be easier if I just get several boards made with the 374 latches ? I mean if this is a stumbling block for me right at the start the nobody else is going to get anywhere either..

In the comment section of the order, simply tell them that you want 374 latches. They
will probably tell you that will make your order a little longer but that's okay. From what
I've seen in the PiSTorm Discord channel, people are also getting the board with 373 latches
to work as well, so you might want to think about that.
Here, I could not get my 373 equipped board to work with my Pi4b but it did work with a Pi3a+.
My 374 equipped board does work with the Pi4b (with the previously posted problem when I
try to switch to medium resolution).

PiStorm development for the Atari has been done using a PiStorm with 374 latches and using a Pi4. The extra power the Pi4 gives allows for a little more flexibility in the timings.
Pi3, and for that matter Pi2-zero was never on the cards initially, because with interrupt checking and bus-error checking, the loop cycles were too big (too much latency). However, with a ton of "slimming down" the code, I got it to a point where performance was reasonable on a Pi3. To be honest, that was a huge mistake on my part as it opened a can of worms. I dread to think how many hours I have spent in building custom solutions for some people. But not anymore I'm afraid. If you want to use a Pi3/Pi2z and/or a PiStorm with 373 latches the you are on your own.

Hardware files are available in PiStorm_RevB_EPM240_74LVC16373.zip, but they may be out of date. Joining the Discord and checking for the latest revision/BoM for the PiStorm adapter board is recommended. Please note that just because it says "RevB_EPM240" does NOT mean that all Rev B boards are EPM240s.

ATARI ST(fm) and STe should be good. Steve uses an H5, and a couple of dabbled with Mega ST with mixed results - you should join our Discord channel

Has anyone looked at the schematic ? I mean by the looks of it, DATA line 0 is connected to address 1, A23 is connected to D7

16 Pi lines connected to 39 68k lines and 16 CPLD lines. The flip-flops are used for level shifting, direction control, latching and bus isolation.
A1 isn't directly connected to D0, but it's indirectly connected to D1.
Here's my PiStorm STE schematic which is a simple retranscription of the file you attached with modifications for the PLCC header. It is correct.

I should be able to get some boards made. I will get the 374 latches. I need to get some other boards made up anyway.
