Just picking up on this thread.

I received my CT63 from CenturionTech last February, but have not been able to power it up properly. All three PSU's I have used will not power on my CT63 when using the momentary switch. They work fine when I short PS/ON on the socket, but I don't know how harmfull this is to the CT63. I already encountered some issues described https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.p ... 20#p461620

I discussed with CenturionTech, but they point to the forums, advising me to get help here.

I have tried:
PicoPSU 90
PicoPSU 120
Sweex 2050 20-pin ATX PSU

All have the same behavior when using the momentary switch: power led blinks on then off and fan starts to circle but immediately stops. I was told this is related to the PG signal that is not returned by the Falcon because the 3.3V and 5V do not ramp up in the correct sequence.

Two questions:

1) is manually shorting PS/ON harmful to my Falcon / CT63 / 68060?

If no, then fine: I have my solution for now.

If yes, then:

2) I need a working PSU for my CT63. Who can point me into the right direction to get one?

Cheers for that, I'll read up and make sure to point my contributions to the relevant threads.

I've got exactly the same problem with a brand new CT63 and am similarly stuck - it needs multiple attempts to start with any supply (decent quality PicoPSUs and name brand ATX bricks), and I'd need to send my whole system to Centurion for debug to make progress (which I'm not keen on!). I also have an old CT60 which I thought was broken and I'd managed to fix - and now starts first time with every supply.

My theory is that it really needs a Centurion power supply to work, given that I *think* (as called out in the thread) it's not a soft start PSU. I'm not sure what to do, other than figure out how to build a similar supply ;(

From this post he talks about a voltage drop on the 5V rail causing issues. viewtopic.php?p=109088#p109088

It's a shame willy stopped selling the CT60e it was a lot better put together than the original CT60 IMO.

There’s an 18AWG wire which I strapped neatly from the 5V ATX pins to the Berg connector just in case - but it doesn’t help.

This is presumably a wonky power good stuff signal as suggested. I have a four-channel scope, so I’ll take a trace as soon as I can figure out how to avoid an inadvertent short.

Return to “PSU (power supplies)”
