Maybe you need a bios update?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

To lazy to go looking for a old laptop.
6gb showed in bios then windows wouldn't boot. Then the screen started flashing all sorts of colours for no reason. Now my WiFi won't connect

At least it's not as bad as my Acer Aspire 1500, which is Athlon 64 based and has a chipset which should be able to do loads of RAM... However, the BIOS won't POST at all if there's more than 1x1GB SIMM + 1x512MB SIMM. Yep, maximum 1.5GB.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I've given up and ordered a WiFi card off my favorite hated auction site just.
annoyingly I had a identical laptop which I was using for spares at one point but I basically had a clear out a couple years ago and chucked all the spare parts away other than the screen
