I Imagine its all about loading game assets Jon, plus checking online for updates, etc. Who knows?

Maybe get yourself a copy of 'Trials Fusion' or 'Trials Rising', then you will.
Edit: Here we are; AI is our friend in this case:

Trials Rising
takes a long time to load on Xbox One primarily because the game constantly communicates with Ubisoft servers to load player ghosts, leaderboard data, and track information. These server dependencies, combined with the slower hard drive speed of the base Xbox One, cause significant loading delays.

Re: A PS1 surprise
Indeed.
In fact, if the rest of the family hadnt of invested so much in the pricey games, I would have scrapped all this later gen console stuff and put in some older cart based consoles.
I mean, how can it be that a 1982 Atari 2600 can load a game in a few seconds and a modern console takes countless minutes excluding installation, which is also a thing nowadays. (Hang on, isnt that why I bought a console intead of a PC?)
Also, theres too much online nosiness involved for my liking.
People will probably say 'ah, hes a grumpy old git. Its not that bad.' whereas I would respond with: 'actually no, I have just been around long enough to notice that the situation is slowly gettting worse!'

Yeah, there is an awful to to be said for cartridge based consoles that's for sure.mrbombermillzy wrote: 27 Feb 2026 19:15Indeed.

Re: A PS1 surprise
I threw my fat PS3 backwards compatible into CEX over a year ago as it was actually pretty pointless.
The backwards compatibility is a nice idea but you still end up with crap looking PS2 games. Being able to properly upscale PS2 games on even a moderately recent mini PC sealed the deal for me. Besides, I still have a slim PS3 and a super slim PS3 too (I had 3 of them to run triple monitor Gran turismo).
As well as a hacked PSone, I also have both a slim and fat PS2 with free McBoot memory card and network adapter with IDE->SATA converters and an SSD connected. But in all honesty, they're just shoved into drawers or in the garage as the convenience of being able to fire up an emulator and play things with upscaled textures wins hands down.
They join my homebrewed Nintendo Wiii, Wii U, DSi, Gameboy Advance SP, 3DS and 3DSXL in the "hacked for convenience but shoved into a cupboard" list :D
I never got into XBox so don't have any of those.

Re: A PS1 surprise
Well I tried to make a CDR for the PS1 but it failed, so either the MOD isn't working, or more likely being an older 3 wire type, it won't work with everything.
I can only assume whoever modded it did have some luck or there would have been little point in doing it. I'll see if I can find some older games that may work, but I do have a PSIO coming so I'm not overly concerned if it doesn't work.
