OK, so the parts arrived for the Switch whilst I was in the office yesterday:

I'm going to leave the connector to the very end, as it'd be very annoying to fit it then damage it before I had a chance to reassemble the machine, and with the new charge chip installed we should be good to go for testing purposes as if all is well, I should see correct charge voltages on the USB meter and inserting the USB C should cause the whole device to power on.

Installing the IC shouldn't be too bad as i can heat directly, the connector is another matter, as under the board has a number of components I don't want to lose, so heating from below could b difficult, so I may have to either heat from the top and drop the part on, or go for microsoldering.

I'll have to see how big it looks under the microscope :)

Well, I'm not a happy bunny :(

I was adjusting my position, slipped with the tweezers and knocked a load of components off the Switch around where I was trying to fit the M92T36 USB charge chip!!!!

I think I've recovered all the components, but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit them all again and safely install the USB IC.

I know, I'm still pulling what little hair I have left out, however I have managed to find a donor board on eBay and the original is still workable if I can get all the parts reinstalled.

Ah bugger.

Sell it for spares and get an "unpatched" full Switch?

I've bought lots of "broken" unpatched switches over the years from fb market place etc. and you can bag bargains (Sub £80) if you know what to look for.

Usually they can be bought with one of these faults :

"Joycon drift" (but Nintendo are replacing them free of charge)
Broken uSD card slot (£5 part, 5 minute fix, no soldering)
Broken cartridge slot (£5 part, 5 minute fix, no soldering)

Most vendors are happy to give you or enter the serial number into https://ismyswitchpatched.com/ to confirm it is unpatched.

I may well yet do this but having got a donor board I'll see if I can work something out first, then if I can't I'll probably sell it for spares. It's looking like the screen etc in mine is good, so even if I can find one with a dead digitiser or screen I may be able to make one out of two, but we'll see.

Eek! Almost as bad as sneezing with tiny surface mount capacitors on the bench.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Yep, a very similar scenario for sure.

Spares board is on top, you can see the carnage my slip caused on the bottom board.

I have also managed to secure another cheap Switch Lite that has a broken case but works, so I have a bit of a backup plan if the rebuild of the original goes wrong (Again).
