Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
Thanks. Now I have the death certificates and get the solicitor on the case it should be fine. They did my Mum's estate in 2016 and have my Dad's will and the house deeds too.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Sounds like it's all well under control, and having the deeds is definitely a good thing. It took us months to locate the deeds to Mum and Dad's house, which were at a solicitors and had been for 40 years, but they'd left no record of it, and it took some detective work to locate them.stephen_usher wrote: 18 May 2023 16:09 Thanks. Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
I travelled home this afternoon so had a chance to pop into work and collect the Nubus graphics card...
No go. It looks like the Nubus slots aren't even being initialised, which is nothing to do with the FBV chip. I will need to trace where the chip select for the Nubus bus transceivers go. Maybe there are bad traces there or to the Nubus controller chip.

Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
Actually, I do see a brief interaction between the system and the Nubus bus but it's a once off blip of the address lines and nothing else.
Given that the Nubus is mostly controlled by the MDU and NUBUS30 chips and FBV is only dealing with the interrupts (FBV I think stands for FrameBuffer-VIA as it combines a display driver with the functionality of a second VIA.)

It's been a long time with my rusty memory but I remember the video circuit monitor detect being involved with the boot process. And I can cause a lot of grief

Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
Hmmm... I think that eBay sourced Nubus graphics car may be dead. There's no /RAS or /CAS signals going to the RAM. Unless the driver turns this on, which I would doubt, the main chip is kaput.

Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
Still awaiting a very badly damaged doner IIsi board arrive in the post so i can harvest the RBV chip from it, so no more progress other than the discovery that it will always bong if the backup battery is installed.

Re: The daemon Mac IIci: Can it be fixed?
I have the Mac IIsi PCB now and the amount of battery damage is huge. I pulled the battery out and a lot of the PCB surface came with it. Thankfully not near the chips I want to harvest.
