Hi,

I have just ordered a PiStorm to try this with my H5 board
Will be an interesting experience…
AFAIK this is an ongoing development for the ST

@dad664npc read somewhere, that you would be happy with some more testers :-)
Unfortunately I will be of no use as a developer (can solder a lot, but I am really bad with SW and coding)

One short question re the PI4 - what RAM size should I use? Is 2G enough?

I’ve got a PiStorm here too but not had time yet to try it out. I also pre ordered a Pi5, wonder what sort of results that would give. Won’t find out till 2024 though when it arrives.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

They are not compatible with PiStorm. The GPIO controller has completely changed compared to previous RPi

Are you sure? It says standard 40 pin GPIO header? It does have a lot of other I/O too though.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

100% they changed the GPIO controller for a new PCIe based core in their new Southbridge. Same I/O, same pinout, but not software compatible. I'm hearing stories of high latency making it unsuitable for things like PiStorm IRQ. Also no SMI

@alexh that's an interesting decision by them then. I’ll stick to using one of my Pi4s then

@LarryL 2GB is fine. It even runs at 1GB on a Pi3 now, just not as fast as a pi4 of course. Feel free to join the Pistorm discord, we're in #atari channel.

Thanks Steve, will order the 2Gig version

Not used to discord yet - tried the invitation link from the GitHub on my iPad, but safari complained that it could not open it
Will try from a desktop computer tomorrow

All other I/O functions are offloaded to a separate I/O controller, implemented on an older, cheaper process node, and connected to the AP via PCI Express. RP1 is our I/O controller for Raspberry Pi 5, designed by the same team at Raspberry Pi that delivered the RP2040 microcontroller, and implemented, like RP2040, on TSMC’s mature 40LP process.
