There is also another obscure game called Takeshi no Chosenjo:

Wow that's not many. I remember a game on the DS using the microphone, you had to blow out a flame.

I suspect my lack of Japanese language would be a barrier to these games though. I wonder if any of them are on my N8?

I guess Star Soldier doesn't require any language competence.

I am also curious to see what kind of games the N8 contains...

Maybe not 😁

It's got a lot on it and a mix of regions, though lbh regional locking didn't happen with the Famicom, only later with the NES.

So, the final job for this little guy.

Controller 2 apart again and new parts installed:

You can see the wear on the old pads compared to the new.

All back together and ready for testing:

And a quick test with Contra in 2 player mode and we're all good.

I will see if I have any of the games which support the microphone to test that, but I don't forsee any issues. Hope that forsee isn't a foreshadowing...

I think so. Having given it some thought, I think I am going to leave it as is and step away from sorting out the jailbars. Most of the time they really aren't an issue, so I don't think the work is really necessary.

I have to say, I think (Aside from the permanently connected controllers) it's a much nicer console than the NES, really compact and a much more sensible design. The top loader was definitely a step in the right direction design wise and much closer to the original Famicom.
