So, only one more thing to test, the internal SCSI connector, before the machine can be classed as fully functional.

The floppy just needs a bit of relubrication on the floppy support frame to ease it up, removing the old sticky stuff.
Woo Hoo!!!

Well, once the ZuluSCSI arrives I'll get that fitted and install MacOS System 7.5.3. The machine can then become my go-to Mac for testing things. I may get an ethernet NuBus card so I can network it properly. It's the fastest and most expandable m68k Mac I have.

Floppy drive cleaned and re-lubed. It now nicely clunks as the floppy disk is inserted. :-)

Whoever put grease on the drive head rails and worm flooded the whole area with the goo. Took quite a few cotton buds to scoop it out from the frame. Nice new synthetic grease in there now, just enough and not too much.

The internal SCSI connector works!

I made up a SCSI cable this evening and tried an old SCSI drive...

The only problem is the MOLEX power cable is stupidly short and won't even stretch across to the normal side for hard drives, so this is why the hard drive is at such an angle. It won't matter for the solid state SCSI drive replacements as they will have a MOLEX to Berg cable adapter.

Still, that was the last thing to test.

(Note the UK MacOS System 7.5 with "Wastebasket" rather than "Trash" :-) )

Installed...

And it works nicely, though it's slower than the 4GB Micropolis hard drive I was using last night.

Now I've got to try to upgrade System 7.5.0 up to 7.5.5 via 7.5.3 (You can't go straight to 7.5.5 from 7.5.0, only 7.0 or 7.5.3 are allowed) but using rubbish files people have uploaded to the 'Net.

I think the original LED was green but I only have red 3mm ones.

HP CD writer working with the Mac IIci now and I've found a multi-language System 7.5.3 CD image at last, which also has the 7.5.5 upgrade.

After I get back from my trip down to Cornwall this weekend I'll look at changing the LEDs. Apparently the power LED should be green and the disk one orange.
