Yeah, you can never rule that out.

Dont forget (or 'are you aware') not all fat PS3s are the same.

IIRC, there are ones with the 2 backward emulation related ICs, and ones with one of them (and the other is SW emulated).

I cant remember all the relevant model no's at this point.

I swapped the latter in a deal with @PhilC a while ago as faulty. (Not sure if he ever tried getting it to work again, or it was too much effort to bother with?)

I know. Pretty much guaranteed to have an emotion chip if they were 60gb (CECHCxx)

All those that I listed are (on closer inspection) not the ones you want.

I've removed the Tokin caps from it for replacement but never got round to it. I suspect its deader than a Dodo though but we shall see.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Did not know that.. But never owned a PlayStation.. I think the only time I possibly worked on was about 25+ years ago and the 5V regulator packed in..
Girlfriends dad sometimes gets a PlayStation 1 or 2 , has it a month, then gets rid of it .. the 2 months later gets another again

The Tokins are an interesting fix, my current PS3 had a YLOD and I could make it boot by warming the Tokins up. I replaced them with a kit that used I think 6 or 8 tantalums per Tokin, it's run flawlessly since then and you can always get Tantalyser boards which is a little easier.

Those Tokins don't like heat though and come off in bits.

I was very lucky in that I went to a car boot sale a few years back and noticed a cheap PS1 for sale laid on the floor with a wallet of CDRs. ;)

Ive got the above mentioned chipped PS1 and 2 and to be honest, prefer them to the newer (PS3>/XBox360>) consoles. My poor boys have to wait literally 10 minutes on XBOne for their motorcross game to load, poor sods.

IMHO, thats ridiculous for a game, so to combat this, Ive just bought a Saroo cart for my Sega Saturn, so I can 'swap out' the consoles and hope no one notices!

I have a Fenrir ODE in my Saturn plus a RAM/Memory/Pseudo Saturn Kai so it'll play anything you throw at it. Saroo came later for me and I was already set up.

Why does it take so long for that game to load, seems a bit mad.
