How did we go from 'try pressing a button on the Gotek to reset the OLED controller' to 'recap the PSU'. Not that I'm against re-capping PSUs, but the logical progression here defies belief :)

Got to say I'm with @Steve on this...

First off, if the machine is running and works with a normal FDD, then the PSU should be more than up to powering a Gotek, which requires only 5v, not 5v & 12v like some disk drives.

Second, if you have a PC, then try running the Gotek with the PSU in that. You don't need to connect the data cable, just power it from the PSU using the standard FDD power connector and see what happens.

Alternatively, if you have a bench PSU you can hook up the Gotek to that using just 5v, which should be the power pin next to the data connector:

Red is 5v, black is ground, yellow isn't needed.

Factory resetting the Gotek can be done by holding the 2 buttons down for 3 seconds whilst powering on, with no USB stick inserted. You should get a message on the display saying it's been reset.

Different reset procedure, if one doesn't work, try the other.

because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt which suggests either the PSU is messing around or the drive controller is up the creek , so recap the PSU as this has never been done so makes me stop being lazy and then by flashing and using in another unit i can see what it does to see if the problem is with the controller or bad DMA which someone suggested elsewhere

update
after bit of illness i got back to it
i borrowed a proper floppy drive and connected that up to ensure the floppy controller was not faulty m it worked no bombs and loaded a disk
i took the easy route and reflasehd the software using the keirf software and method and updated software , this seems to have worked i don't get any screen but if i twist the rotary knob i get different programmes on floppy 1 which is good
what i also did
cleaned up the floppy connections both power and ribbon , i ensured the power connector pins were splayed just a bit to ensure a tight fit as it seemed loose to me before
i gave the plug a "squeeze "with pliers to tighten the receptacles a bit
so it appear them cheap Chinese oleds don't work , of course i am waiting for a replacement from a reputed seller and see if that's a problem i rung the cables with my tester and they are good , so its the only obvious reason left
so
so far thanks for all the replies and advice , im sure i will need more at some point a few questions i will post later about emulators on the ST

Interestingly I have been experiencing the same issues when using relatively new Goteks (x2) and Oled screens.

I'm using them on my OSI600D (C1P-MF) and just sometimes the screen goes blank and won't come back until I pull power for a period of time.

Mine are set to auto in FF.CFG, but there is a -slow option and it says to use it to slow I2C down if the display goes blank. Probably worth a try but does require a reset to reload FF.CFG.
