Maybe it is why people are getting confused and thinking the current sold board is expensive and hard to build because they are confusing it with previous boards Is basically minimal soldering involved and you can literally get the thing up and running in under a hour.

Not all the parts were fitted like the simm socket because I think they was like £12 each, so 12 x 50 = £600. The costs quickly add up and I simply ran out of funds to invest in any more parts being fitted. I think at the time the oscillators were out of stock and I had to get them custom-made. I don't think I had them at the time the C1 went into production. but even so, sending multiple packages to China for various parts also and adds up in price.

Also, the more parts fitted the more the end price would end up being. There's also the overall issue of weight in the physical size of the thing for shipping problems. Regular forum members back then would know the extremes I went to to keep the postage and size and weight all down to something sensible. The whole thing got delayed multiple times and I just wanted to get it completed in the end because it was all driving me nuts.

Realistically if they was fully assembled it could have added another £100 onto the price easily. Was then people would want to buy them populated and tested which would result in buying a £100 scrap ST.. plus time unsoldering parts and soldering them in.. The overall a complete board would end up something around £500.. and as some people were complaining about the cost of the board as it is now.. Overall I just opted to build them to a reasonable "price point". I guess a lot of people missed a lot of those topics because everything was rapidly progressing at the time.

Up to now I am esp astonished about the picture quality - in low and in high res. Excellent!

Added a 16MHz Booster, permanently jumpered to 8MHz as decoder for TOS2.06.
The used ROM is a 1.04/2.06 one

Hi,

did some more tests during the weekend, and the system runs just fine
Added a STORM for 8GB AltRam in one of the 68k slots yesterday - also no problem (now I also have a RTC connected to the STORM, since I had a fake DS1315 and couldn't use the on-board RTC)
I also changed the PLCC CPU to a DIL-CPU and put it on top of the 16MHz/Decoder Board, and added the connection to Pin39 of the Shifter
System runs stable in 8MHz and in 16MHz

But I have observed an odd issue with the display now.
At least in highRes (did not test low and mid, yet) the display on my LCD (with VGA Adaptor) is now shifted to the right.
It has been well centered, before I added the 16MHz connection

Does this ring a bell?

will make some photos in the evening, how I did the connection of the 16MHz clock

Cannot say I have seen that issue personally.

Though coincidently I have been trying the same booster because I have been testing CPUs this past week. I have not noticed anything odd during all testing.

This is 16MHz enabled using TOS206.

I decided to use the lower part of SJ3, which seems to be directly connected to shifter pin 39
Is this connected to something else, maybe?

In the photo it looks like there is a connection between both parts of the solder jumper - but it is not. The wire is only connected to the lower part

As long as the jumper pad is not physically shorted out then I do not believe there would be a problem. But it is also untested waters as well.

I forgot to mention I have not tried high-resolution during my test is my monitor does not support it.

Does the image shift go away when you use 8MHz mod or simply remove the 16MHz wire?

Ok, strange…

The picture shift was present in 8 and in 16MHz, but only in HighRes

Then I disconnected the 16MHz wire and all was good again.
Then I connected the wire again - and it remains good

Maybe the wire didn’t have good contact before

It's possible you could have something a little "bad" on the 16MHz line. Maybe the length of wire is too long or the output of the shifter is not as good as it should be. If you have the problem again, you could try adding something like 33R in series with the 16MHz line. YMMV.

Though realistically there should not be really any relation between the CPU and video output in that respect anyway
