And the cable the right way up too. :-)PhilC wrote: 01 Mar 2023 09:14 I’ve never tried a HxC floppy emulator but do make sure it is configured to work with an STe, re correct drive Id and pull-up settings.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I don't know if I'm missing something blindingly obvious, but I can't see to find any definitive information on how to set this thing up for the Atari. From some reading it seems as if the cable needs to be connected in reverse, and then I'm guessing switch 3 has to be ON instead of switch 1, but the documentation for individual machines is pretty shocking.PhilC wrote: 01 Mar 2023 09:14 I’ve never tried a HxC floppy emulator but do make sure it is configured to work with an STe, re correct drive Id and pull-up settings.

Re: STE - 4 Bombs on Start Up
Ah, that does help a little. I've got the Rev A slim one, but that didn't specifcally say Atari / Amiga, just Shugart, and while I was pretty sure that was what I wanted I wasn't 100%. Not sure if a twsited cable means one that's been entirely reversed or one of those old PC floppy cables with a twist on a few lines.
Be really useful if those manuals indicated what green meant in the tables too! I can't seem to find a combination that works, so I'm guessing it's not the device. TIme to do some testing on the motherboard I suppose, and check the floppy cable and traces going to it.

@matt.lacey you have tried reversing the cable right? Atari floppy cables are upside down compared to standard drives.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Yeah, the connector is keyed but I had some handy pin headers lying around I could use to extend the pins of the emulator

Well if you can hang on I will be over there in July. ;-)matt.lacey wrote: 01 Mar 2023 08:21 Guess it's time to purchase a diagnostic cart then? Will re-cap the PSU first for the sake of sanity, and double check the HxC in another machine.
Would have loved to take you up on that mate, but unfortunately I've moved back to the UK! Somewhere between Melbroune and here is where the STE stopped working.atari030 wrote: 28 Feb 2023 00:57 In the olden days floppy failure would have been rare, I guess. And they were pretty much essential. If you get stuck I should be able to bodge up a PC drive for you, Matt. I also have a diag cart if you want to run it up.
