P.S. For those of you who don't know, the MTX500 is the lower spec. 32K machine. The ROMPAK is merely a simple circuit board with an edge connector, address decode GAL and an EPROM in a case, something you can build for about £20-£30.
I won't be adding one of those to my collection then!

So not an actual Saturn then? I'd pay that for the console, but not an SD card with some games on it!!

Apart from the occasional dumbass who’s sure his olive green non working 520STF is worth thousands because he read an article about an Apple 1 auction, I suspect a lot of these sales actually hides some illegal activities.

Without any official market for retro computers, there is no official value for these products. We pay what we feel it’s worth based on our nostalgia, feelings and desire to get a specific retro item, so basically no one can actually challenge the price. Moreover, these products have no origin: seller might have had it in his attic for 30 years, found it in the some neighbor’s trash, etc… so not traceable.

Now imagine someone want to sell you something illegal and make sure the money he receives is “clean”: he publishes an auction for a retro product at a price high enough that no retro computer fan will actually buy it, the buyers buys the “old computer “ (which might not even actually exist) and the seller get “clean money”. Pretty difficult to challenge the seller on this. Using a few different eBay accounts to make sure it’s diluted and I guess they can launder a lot over time.

I’m pretty sure it’s only me seeing evil everywhere, but the other explanation would be there are a lot of dumbass, so I don’t know which one I prefer…
