This type of connection is very good and make no contact problems as plcc type things did !

It works fine. I have also a pcb turned 180 degrees the dil socket. May be good for a 1040STE ?

I'm not sure it'll fit in an STE though? On STE the DIL socket should be upward else I guess you can't put the keyboard back on top of it.

The CPU is on the bottom right, near the edge of the motherboard that gives space to the joystick sockets.
