@Icky , do you know if there is a socket to handle the 68901. Any idea why the 68901 layout from the H4 wasn’t used? Soldering the chip on without a socket looks really painfull. Any words of wisdom here. :)

Search for 52 pin PLCC SMD socket. Carefully cut away the inner plastic support in the middle. Solder from the inside with normal soldering iron. Thanks DoG.. That’s what I was hoping. I’d watched a video from here where someone I don’t remember replaced a PLCC processor using that stile of socket. I wasn’t sure they made a socket of that type for chips with that small of a pin count. @exxos|@Icky , I found this socket from mouser but the pitch of 2.54mm seems too large. Is this the correct socket for the 68901? No board yet so can't measure the pad pitch. Thanks.. Paul
Well I found sockets with a pitch of 1.27mm but as you can see 52 pin is not supported. Did anyone find a socket that works for the 68901?

I haven't had time to look at SMT socket for this chip. TBH I think you may struggle as you won't be able to use the heatgun over the socket as it will melt it if you are not careful. For me I am just going to solder the chip directly and be done.

@DoG, @PaulJ - I just took the link @DoG provided above and uploaded the 3D model on the foot print. It fits but as I said I expect you will melt a few in the process of getting these on.

Same on mouser... It says 1.27" pitch there. Easiest if you cut away all the plastic 'stems' and remove middle part of plastic before soldering.

Thanks for the part number @DoG , guess I'll order a few and if they are the pain in the a## I suspect I'll just attempt to solder the device on the board. If the 68901 had the same case stile as the SMT glue it wouldn't be an issue but the 68901 devices has the legs tuck under are just a PIA. :coffee:
