The back of my head is now famous!!!!
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I do think we are more of a "family" related forum than just a simple retro forum. We do have various topics about all sorts. A lot of us talk to other people in PM or "off forum" as well. Is because some of us are quiet at times does not mean we are not keeping in touch with others in the background etc.
I did actually want to write a lot more about the structure of this forum but thought that was enough for one page. I could always do a supplementary page anyway.
Like some of us, maybe me in particular , talk about health issues and such. But others on this forum have similar problems and other people on the Internet may benefit from such discussions as well. I don't think such discussions would really "take" on other retro forums. People would probably get ridiculed etc. This behaviour is simply not tolerated on here. People who have no compassion for others, are not the type of people we want here anyway. I'm certainly not claiming I am perfect in all this. I have fallen out with a lot of people over the years but I have never deliberately tried to upset anyone. But I do have my limits with people and it just sometimes ends up being the outcome. Some people are just simply not worth the effort. I confess my patience with people gets thinner and thinner as the years go on. When you have been bombarded with idiots for the past 30+ years that is just inherently the outcome which happens.
It's like the topic of the rules of this forum. It's a tricky topic to discuss because the rules on this forum are here to try and keep the idiots and trolls off the forum. But of course people complain sometimes its against their human rights or whatever not have the freedom of speech etc. But that is of course a problem across the Internet and white is full of a$$holes. People have got the freedom of speech here, but if people are going to use that right to be an a$$hole, then such people will get banned. Rather a contradictory statement isn't it ?
At the end of the day, there are millions of other forums out there where people can "run-a-muck" as much as they like. If they don't like how we roll on this forum then it obviously its not the forum for them anyway. Nobody forces such people to attend this forum or read any of the content if they do not wish to. Everybody has a preference of how they expect a forum to run. If they don't agree with the philosophy of this forum then I really don't care. I certainly am not going to try and please everybody. It is never going to happen. This forum will undoubtedly not be everyone's "cup of tea", that is of course fine as well.

I think there is a much more tolerant & caring approach on this forum compared to the (few) others I peruse - and I tend to make far more comments on this one than any of the others as a result!
I certainly find this has far less antagonistic posts than some others - and I'm very glad that is the case!
I'd like to applaud the moderators and the forum members as a whole for their friendly approach to us all - a most welcoming environment for retro an other conversations!
Long may it continue to follow these ideals!
:bravo:

Indeed I chose the moderators because they are helpful friendly people who want to help out and share the same values as I do in trying to create a friendly environment.
I do think it is important to realise that the people on this forum make the forum happen not specifically myself or the moderators. A community needs, well, a community!
Another random thought, or 2:
I think we have had a few ladies sign up over the years but for some reason they no longer attend which is a great shame. I'm not sure if they just lost interest or stop posting but still read as a guest or what.
I do sometimes think while we may make little "digs" at one another like we do sometimes with @rubber_jonnie Burning himself as a classic example, the people who are regular on this forum know we are just teasing him more than anything not in any sort of malicious way.
But from a outsiders point of view, if the first comment they read is basically us making fun of him burning himself, then that comment could be taken basically out of context which could have a negative impact on the forum and its members.
I think the occasional Jab is probably fine anyway. Of course if we was constantly saying it daily for years and I think it would become a bit of a problem otherwise. I guess it comes down to "first impressions". It is also mostly why I am trying not to have too many rants about various things these days
I would be interested in knowing what other people's opinions are of this "problem".

I wouldn't want to be a member of a club where we can't make fun of @rubber_jonnie.exxos wrote: 09 Apr 2023 22:35 I would be interested in knowing what other people's opinions are of this "problem".
But seriously, I think that the tone is usually clear in any such posts, and that it's probably obvious even to guests that such things are said in jest. I wouldn't worry about this "problem".

cool video "exxosforum CyberLegends retro event 2022" especially that Icky's part about Phoenix platform.
IMO each part (motherboard revisions, a keyboard, a case) deserves for it's own youtube video.

I think the tone of jibes about my burning incidents has been such that it is pretty clear that it's just good natured fun. However, there are people out there who will interpret it differently, and you will always get that, but I personally don't feel it's a problem for the majority of members.derkom wrote: 09 Apr 2023 22:42I wouldn't want to be a member of a club where we can't make fun of @rubber_jonnie.exxos wrote: 09 Apr 2023 22:35 I would be interested in knowing what other people's opinions are of this "problem".
