From the level for scorching I would very much suspect that the fibreglass substrate is now carbonised and conductive.
As for low light levels in your fibre... it's Winter, not much light at this time of year. It'll be fine in the Summer. ;-)

Like Han Solo, it's encased in carbonite, and I have to agree with you. It can be replaced with an ATX PSU, there is an article on 68KMLA. At least my fibre is fixed, they found a faulty splice that was letting out light. All fixed and the signal up 8db and in normal range again.

Something different today, a Sega Saturn 3d controller (Not really 3d, just analog/digital switchable) and a PCB holder:
The controller works really nicely with Knights into Dreams, it's much easier to play than the joypad.
