I definitely want an ODE, just not sure what to do re region free ATM. Will probably make a plan in the new year.lilwashu wrote: 21 Dec 2022 16:12 If you have the region free stuff sorted you can save a lot of money (sadly less so as time goes on) by buying Japanese copies of suitable games. A lot of the non-RPG ones are mostly in English or don’t rely heavily on language, and come in proper jewel cases rather than the horrid flimsy card and plastic efforts the UK ones do.
Also to offer a dissenting opinion on Daytona, I much prefer the original version to the Circuit editions despite the big graphical deficiencies.
As I don't really have much experience of the Saturn having gone from Megadrive to Dreamcast, it's difficult to compare, so this is all new to me, so can't really say regarding the differences in game versions, but once I get an ODE it'll be nice to have a look. I don't really want to build a large collection of disc games, just want a few to be going on with.
I'm really looking forward to trying Space Harrier on the Saturn, it was one of my favourite arcade cabinets back in the day. I have the Atari 8Bit version of Space Harrier and it's pretty amazing, some pics here:
What you can't see here is how smoothly the A8 runs the game, it really works the custom chips hard and the music is superbly done too.
I think Space Harrier was my first experience of a motion cabinet in the arcade, it left a lasting impression and the game was great fun.
