Cyber Legends part 2 (2023)

Post by PhilC »

Once again thank you to @mrbombermillzy for organising the 2022 event.

Although small (as expected) it was a successful event. So I just thought I'd throw it out there now to see what interest there would be in another event, how often we should hold them, where they should be, etc.

Thoughts please :)

I think at least once per year would be great, so there is time for more people to know it's happening, perhaps time to even advertise outside of the forum and such.

While I enjoyed Hythe, the lovely port and killer seagulls - the hotel offerings were a bit sparse, it was either very cheap (I had an entirely horrible experience at Fountain court, won't go into details here) or three times more expensive, which was too much for my wallet. It would be good to find somewhere with a Travelodge or a Premier Inn (good value and consistency) In close vicinity.

@PhilC Firstly, just wanted to say thank you for the C64 testing station services you provided ;) Nice one!

But yes, the event went well and I think the general concensus is that it's time for me to pass the baton on to someone else for next year.

@Steve Really sorry that the Fountain Hotel was dissapointing for you. Inexpensive hotels these days can be a bit hit and miss, unless you go for the big chains, which I don't think there were any particularly close to Hythe.

Hopefully the 3DFX card made up for any shortcomings there! ;)

There was lots of things happening in the background (many unknown/unplanned) which, with hindsight, I could have streamlined and made better, but I think generally, everyone seemed to have a great night.

Wherever its held next, I'm happy to make the trip over....and so is MrsBomberMillzy, now she knows you all!

I would happily travel for such event more than once a year. Not many Amigas running s next time I may try to fill this gap with something from my collection.

Well @Steve had previously suggested a venue in Coventry which is pretty central UK wise, so it depends on where you guys would like to host it.

I am in Northampton and could find venues around here too if that's a possibility.

Obviously just gauging interest at the mo.

I would like to get to one in the future, this year has been impossible due to family stuff.

I'd love to go to one also... Coventry or Northampton might be possibilities (about 4 hours each way) but that's probably as far south as is practical for me.

@JezC @rubber_jonnie it would be good to see you both there and by choosing a location in the midlands the idea is it might be better accessible for all?

I'd go to another one (but I'd actually test what I bring beforehand and thus have something working to demo)

Alternatively maybe a meetup instead?

Perhaps at the RCM in Leicestershire? Or the RMC (yes similar acronym but they are two different places) in Gloustershire?

I'm east coast, Essex so Midlands isn't much different for me.
