Low profile ZIF sockets

Anybody familiar with low profile ZIF sockets?

Sometimes I need to perform some experiments and these sockets might be ideal. In theory they should be as easy to install and remove the chip as "normal" ZIF sockets, but they are not much bigger than standard sockets so they might fit in motherboards without problems.

Are they reliable and do they make contact as good as non low-profile sockets? Are there any cons (besides the price, of course) on using this type of socket permanently instead of a standard (non ZIF) socket?

Yeah, I know that some of you can solder and desolder chips with your closed eyes, and I guess you would never consider this. But for some of us this kind of stuff is very helpful.

I have not seen those sockets.. But they do look interesting to me, as the normal ZIF sockets are a PITA to fit anything :roll:

Yeah, I've got another machine with a zif dip 68k somewhere.. Hackjob as well, life is too short to get a dip 68k to fit in a normal socket :lol: :roll:

Very nice. Absolutely, even if that ZIF socket is probably expensive, it is worth.

I can get the same one here in Japan for only 250 Yens, around £1.56 (or $1.93).

I've used those low profile zif sockets on some test boards, so far they are working perfectly. Sometimes a little hard to close. Pretty pricey though about about 10USD each iirc.
