I think there was a kickstarter or that ilk that did this. Basically an MP3 inside a tape case with the tape pickup or audio out jack. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Found it -

Hehe. I took apart a bluetooth audio receive dongle and put it inside oneof those to have bluetooth in my wife's old 2002 Peugeot 106.

Charging it up was a pain, though. :D

Ah, that's still using MP3 files rather than .tap or some other type of more efficient storage format file though.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Indeed not the perfect solution.

Nice. Will it be printed 2 tone like the render, or are you going to make some labels that will end up half hanging off, like back in the day?

I was thinking the same. I managed to find somewhere that does old labels so am thinking the button text can be written like you do with the old mix tapes of old in biro or felt-tip.

We're definitely thinking along the same lines here :)

Well that didn't go well for a first prototype.

Too thin for the walls and printer in need of calibration from house move (thought I had it right :( but obviously not)

Fit wise it needs a bit of tweaking.
