 I lose the plot constantly, normally because I'm doing like 20 things at once, then when I go back to number one, I have no idea what is going on...

Anyway, got my scope on the clocks but as per usual, the machine does not behave on command

I think I will see if there is any subtle differences between the 1712's as only one of them half behaves. The others dont boot at all...

It seems very hit and miss if the video is basically perfect or totally trashed. It is not thermal because the video was basically fine for the past few hours. But I have noticed it repeatedly that turning machine off and on seems to have different effects on the video.
I thought that STE had only 1 wake-up mode by maybe @troed knows more about this.

AFAIK it only has one fixed mode which Closure uses. But something is changing between powerups (which its now not doing) but it may be one of those things which doesn't matter in terms of software running anyway.

There are no GLUE-MMU (CPU) wakeup modes on the STE, however, it has the same Shifter wakeup modes as on the ST. Unfortunately, these cannot be probed by software. It is however possible to create a program that would show a different pattern on screen depending on which wakeup the machine is in.

These wakeup modes affect "Spectrum 512 black dots" for example.

My current STE I got off my shelf, has the 1712 shifter, but it's the integrated blitter GST. This one doesn't seem to go mental like the other machine with external blitter.. might be a clue..

I have updated my website with more up-to-date information https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/ ... /index.htm

I enclose a better image here also.

For those who have not fully been following this thread, there is another issue ongoing in this thread about graphics corruption with the 1712 Shifter. This work is still currently ongoing.

Going back to these images..

Oddly on my current STE with integrated blitter, and 1712 shifter, the video is stable, but it gives more horizontal background raster than the diagonal ones with the 588 Shifter On the original machine I tested ( external blitter) .. odd...

So I tried the 588 shifter in the internal blitter machine, and the background pattern is the same with the horizontal raster lines.

In other words, the 1712 or 588 shifter in the internal blitter machine behave exactly the same with horizontal raster lines. But on the external blitter machine, I get more diagonal raster lines with the 588 shifter, no idea what is going on there @fenarinarsa ?

@Steve Yeah will send you one once i've tested it and got some plan how to fit and set it up. Of course there is no way to know if it will help or not until its tried.

Wish JLC would get a move on :ball:
