I've done a PSU variation with 12V linear regulator. Will order 5 pcs and build them up and review. These will be easier to assemble as less parts involved and should work out a fraction cheaper to produce.
PCB is a fraction smaller than before and I have moved fuse holder as it is a little bit in the way of the top right screw hole.

Re: Future PSU designs
Prototype PCB's arrived today. Will build one up and evaluate it next week.
I think once the current batch of PSU's have sold, I doubt I am going to be making those again in favour for the "low cost" version as shown below. Though the price for them may not be a huge difference anyway (only like £5 at a guess) . Though I can't keep soldering this many parts on PCB's by hand all the time, which is my motivation to reduce parts count to speed up production of them. I may also swap out the though hole resistors for SMT. I was against this originally as it "cuts" up the top heatsink area, but again I need to build one and evaluate it also in case it limits the 5V amps to much.
The low cost version won't have a 2amp capable 12V switchmode circuit anymore. The new one should still be able to deliver enough for stock machines anyway. Likely 200mA at a guess, but need to evaluate it.

New EVM to play with, packaging bit OTT though!
Man, the chip is like 0805 resistor size and 6 pins :o

Re: Future PSU designs
hey, whats the max wattage output on the current psu, could i drive an additional 5w on top of a board, floppy and storage device ?
actually thinking of putting one of these under the hood, would look cool through the grill.
