Re: Dave's tinkerings
Finally got round to adding missing SIMM sockets to my original STe. Nice and easy to solder when you've got an appropriately size soldering iron.
Mixed pairs of parity SIMMs... can't say they seem to be causing any issues for me thankfully.

Good job. Two different SIMM holders? The one with metal spring seems nicer.

Yeah, think it originally would've come with SIPPs, someone else posted up an image of a similar GX-211 VO 2490 board, but my dad got a 2Mb upgrade for it. The newer sockets are from Exxos's store.DoG wrote: 29 Jan 2021 14:20 Good job. Two different SIMM holders? The one with metal spring seems nicer.

Re: Dave's tinkerings
Decided to try fix my STe's original floppy drive, used a 1uf cap instead of a 10uf one, not quite as slick as exxos' smd capacitor fix, but it now actually works.

Re: Dave's tinkerings
Busy day, cut between pin 10 and 12 on the unflip floppy adapter so it'll work fine in STs and STes alike.
Bit more butchery so I can fit the power cable into a gotek.
Somehow snapped the end off my soldering tip, thankfully I managed to finish off enough of the HD module before the rest of it was dissolved by the flux.
Picked up the drive select off the unflip board, will add the second drive select and a pin 2 output for HD select for a gotek when I get the time.
Cursed a few times before considering I might have picked up a knackered HD floppy. All working happily now, even jumped E6 on my STe and tried formatting under TOS.

Re: Dave's tinkerings
Cool. think you're probably the first one to try the un-flip board out!

Re: Dave's tinkerings
I went back to the board with the interesting mix of black, purple and green displaying, thought I'd try the STfm video sync fix. Course parts arrived and plugged it in to see how bad it was looking, and with the change of weather since I last checked it seems to have fixed itself
So I swapped all the caps anyway and it still works after the ordeal. Though in honesty I'll probably be pinching ICs off this board when my H5 board turns up.

Re: Dave's tinkerings
It was probably just a bad contact on one of the Shifter pins.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: Dave's tinkerings
I don't know, I did end up removing the shifter and putting it back without a change. Maybe a dodgy solder joint somewhere?
Probably remain a mystery until the wintery weather hits again and it maybe shows problems?
