It lives!

Post by DominoTree »

Got a few issues to investigate, but it fired right up and seems (mostly) stable!

(GEMbench results are with no tweaks or apps or anything enabled yet - just dropping the hardware in my 1040STf)

Well done. Be sure to check out all the maprom stuff for speed boosts etc :)

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Looking good!

How are you decoding the extra address range for TOS 2.06?

There's a "decoder" hidden beneath the TF536, although I believe you might be able to get away with booting a 192k EmuTOS ROM - so far I've just been using EmuTOS from disk

Newer EmuTOS build got me some *way* better numbers. Still need to get the blitter and fast-ram going (think I need to flash the CPLD with some newer firmware - the system locks when I try fastram/maprom)

@DominoTree Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was just some sockets to raise the TF board up or not.

I'm currently using the 192k EmuTOS boot ROMs & loading EmuTOS from the auto folder on a Gotek but if I use a newer version of EmuTOS then the floppy isn't working after it booted into EmuTOS (but it works OK to boot EmuTOS form Gotek in the first place... :shrug: ).

I don't have the same problem with the floppy not working after booting with the older (0.912?) EmuTOS build...but I don't get anything like the GEMBench results you have there :?

I'm not sure which CPLD firmware I have in my board but I will need to sort out the floppy issue with the later EmuTOS build first I guess (or sort out a CF card so that the TF can access s/w on that once it has booted).

So much to do, so little time... :(

I've noticed that having the cache enabled in TOS 2.06 or EmuTOS seems to affect disk-related things, both floppy and hard disk - TOS 2.06 *way* more often. The floppy (HxC emulator) will give me all sorts of errors, and hard disks (UltraSatan with HDDRIVER) will show as being empty most of the time, and reads will fail if I do manage to get a directory listing and try to open a file.

I hadn't actually noticed the floppy issue in the newer EmuTOS until you mentioned it, and I'm definitely seeing it now too, but disabling the cache seems to make it work pretty reliably - otherwise I just get messages about the drive not responding.
