Pasti file format.

Post by Cosmic Puppet »

A lot of games are in this format and I keep finding things I like the look of and then being dissappointed.

Is there a simple way to make these usable on the ST?

I bought this from America last year as it is Read/Write possible for 720K disks in windows XP (which I have running in Virtualbox)

Unfortunately it doesn't work with the Floppy to USB controller I have attached to the PC motherboard via the spare usb pin header.

So I have a very expensive floppy drive in the PC that read 1.44 disks

This model is good for converting to an ST drive though, so I could potentially use it in the future.

I had no intention of playing games when I bought this machine, but now I'm loving that I can. 8-)

I have a cross generation pc that has a floppy controller on it and I had a xp version on a old hard drive. I was going to get rid of it but I kept it

Pastii is a preservation format and not usable as a disk image in something like a Gotek, Goex or HxC.

You may be able to write it to a real disk with something like a Kryoflux or Greaseweasel.

Hm, I have already converted several .stx (Pasti) images to .hfe and used them on mx Gotek with HxC firmware.

Is there a way of converting an .stx file to something usable on original hardware. I can convert .st files to msa files and I can unpack msa files to floppy disk on my original hardware. I can also convert lzh files on original hardware.

.stx seems to be the only brick wall.

If the .stx image was made from a non-copy-protected standard (i.e., 720k) disk, you could convert it to .st, for example using the HxC tools, or write it back to a floppy disk. However, the reason .stx exists in the first place is to faithfully reproduce copy-protection schemes. In that case, you cannot write these images back to a real floppy disk using standard floppy hardware -- otherwise it wouldn't be a very good copy protection, would it? Like I've mentioned above, in many cases the .stx images can be converted to .hfe and can then be used on real hardware in a Gotek (with HxC firmware), though.

Yeah, that makes sense, thank you. I was unaware it was copyrighted.
