I think i blew up my Voodoo 3 3000 PCI

Post by terriblefire »

Ah man..

So i was playing around with my mediator setup + TF1260 and i was having issues with my capture card. I was swapping cards about trying to get it to work when i tried to boot the machine as normal an nothing happened. I noticed that i'd placed the Voodoo in the mediator incorrectly...

She no longer is recognised by the Amiga or a PC. :(

I think i may have put 12V down the reset line :(

I checked the regulators and fuses and they all are fine.

Ahh man that sucks. I have those days where you start out on a 5 minute project, in doing so break something and then break something else trying to fix what just broke :(. It's about that time I usually slice myself open on some case metal :s

Then the little "sell everything but keep the MiSTer" devil pipes up and has makes his case, but we say to him "not today!".

At least you can sell it on eBay as "unable to test"

Ouch, not cheap to replace these anymore :(

You could do what this guy is doing and sell it faulty for a premium price:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3dfx-Voodoo- ... SwzpddUxuA
Not only is it mediator compatible, but it is also RARE and FAULTY! :D

For what it's worth I've had great luck with S3Virge boards on my Prometheus. If you don't need the 3D acceleration offered by the Voodoo it makes a good inexpensive alternative RTG PCI solution...

=( Is anything getting hot on the card? Check inductors on there, maybe if you're super lucky a ferrite bead or other inductor went open.

I have several RTG cards.. S3, Radeon, CyberVision3D... i'd only just got this one and it was for compatibility testing with Mediator + TF1260.
