@popeymon One other thing to consider is a re-cap of the PSU...@exxos and others have frequently made the point that failing capacitors can lead to over-voltage spikes on teh power supply output & that can stress & eventually kill components (including RAM).
So, I'd look at the mandatory fixes topic https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =17&t=1585 at the very least.

Re: Newbie from Somerset UK
Thanks.
I have ordered the Diagnostics cartridge, which I will use first.
The PSU is currently quite buzzy, so I agree that I need to look at this.
A couple of years ago, I would have never even opened a computer up. And I've learned a lot - on low voltage computers with external power supplies. I actively avoided power supplies. Now that I have gained more knowledge and confidence, I have repaired some external power supplies.
However, the Atari ST has an internal power supply and it uses a lot of current. The capacitors are scary big.
And I am not a "qualified electronics engineer"!
Who do I have to get a certificate from on this forum? :D

Alright me ol' mucker?
If you'z got a console, where be the PS2 to? :?:
I am learning the local lingo and making a hybrid Somerset-Cockey language :o
You must've gone to one of those posh schools near Bruton.
No Amigas at my school - I was too old for that - UK101 and ZX81 then BBC Micros and Spectrums, C64 and then I got an ST - my mate at Uni had an Amiga - and anyway my school was a poor school in that ol' London anywayz. I regret selling my ST but I am going to fix this one and then pimp it up a bit.
I would love to get my hands on a Dragon 32, if only for the lovely keyboard and that they were Welsh-made. And to see Manic Miner in black and white.

Re: Newbie from Somerset UK
Hello again everyone,
I got my diagnostics cartridge.
Plugged it in.
It did not "take over" control.
The same blank screen as before.
Perhaps I need to read some documentation first?

Thanks.
So I am going to have get a null modem cable. And a PC, as it does not boot to the red screen as I thought it might.
I don't currently have a working desktop PC, only laptops with no correct ports.
Argh.
